Ecol research: Oil’s ability to release air

Oil’s ability to release air.

You can find a list of all analysis performed at the Ecol diagnostic laboratory on this page.

method description:

The test consists of aeration and determination of the time (in minutes) of release of air from the oil, the measurement is carried out by measuring the density.

interpretation of results:

Air release capacity depends on oil viscosity, quality as well as type of oil base. It should be determined with reference to the value of fresh oil and the requirements of the equipment manufacturer. Air release capacity is affected by mixing, contamination and aging. Deterioration of this parameter is virtually irreversible. Excessive time of air secretion from the oil can result in the breaking of the oil “film” and improper operation of control systems (hydraulics). In addition, it can cause cavitation, and microdieseling.
