Getting into the game with MONOPOLY

Ecol is on the board of the Rybnik edition of the cult game

On 16 November, the premiere of the Rybnik edition of the cult game MONOPOLY took place in the Plaza Shopping Centre in Rybnik. This is an exceptional event, in which Ecol, alongside three other local companies, found its place on the board. What does this mean in practice? The player can manage our assets, building his empire on the Rybnik map.

Ecol and Rybnik on the MONOPOLY board

Rybnik has joined the group of 20 Polish cities that have their own unique edition of the MONOPOLY game. It is the third city in Silesia – after Katowice and Zabrze – to boast its own version of this strategic board game. The following cities already have their own versions of Monopoly: Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Łódź and Wadowice.

The board of the Rybnik edition is a journey through the city’s most recognisable places. The centre is adorned with Rybnik’s market square, and the fields feature local attractions, as well as fields of Ecol, Martex and Leon companies and Radio 90.

The premiere event at CH Plaza attracted the attention of residents and local authorities. The mayor of Rybnik, Piotr Kuczera, and representatives of the companies that bought their fields on the board, including the president of Ecol, Wojciech Majka, were present.

– We are very strongly associated with Rybnik – we have been operating in the city for over 33 years. Initially, in the surroundings of the Rybnik Power Plant, we developed our business as a service company, and today we are present all over Poland and abroad. We firmly believe that our roots are extremely important to us, which is why we decided to take part in this project and also present ourselves on the game board.

– This is not only an opportunity for promotion, but also a sign of social responsibility. We believe that the initiatives of companies supporting such ventures are very important, as they build bonds – both internal, between employees and their families, as well as broader ones resulting from a presence in the local, regional and even national community.

– Wojciech Majka, President of the Management Board of Ecol Sp. z o.o.

about MONOPOLY

MONOPOLY is a game that has been uniting generations and teaching financial management for almost 90 years. Its history dates back to 1935, when Charles Darrow created the first prototype based on ‘The Landlord’s Game’ by Lizzie Magie. The game quickly became hugely popular, becoming one of the best-selling board games in the world.

The original game was based on locations in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with the exception of Marven Gardens, which is located in neighbouring Ventnor City, New Jersey.

Monopoly has become part of international popular culture, being licensed locally in more than 113 countries and printed in 47 languages. By 2015, it is estimated that the game had sold more than 300 million copies worldwide.
