method description:
The method involves measuring the stress – the so-called interfacial tension – that exists between the oil sample and the water layer. A measuring ring is placed at the interface between two immiscible liquids, where it is held in place by the surface tension that exists between them. During the measurement, an attempt is made to detach the ring from the interface by gradually increasing the force. The force required to detach the ring from the interfacial surface is the measurement value.
