method description:
A sample in a Grease Thief or other sampler is introduced into the measuring chamber of the apparatus. The measurement is made by means of the distortion of the magnetic field generated by the coil of the apparatus. The tests are characterised by high accuracy and repeatability regardless of the distribution and size of the particles in the sample. The method is used for the testing of greases because of their consistency, where the particles, unlike in oils (liquids), do not move, and also because of the larger measuring range, as the content of iron particles in greases is usually much higher than in oils.
