The Ecol training program includes preparation for the following exams:
Entry-level certification for professionals beginning their work with lubrication management. The training covers the fundamentals of lubrication, lubricant handling and best operating practices.
Education and Experience
Candidates are not required to have any formal education, complete specific courses or demonstrate a minimum period of work experience before taking the LAT exam.
ICML recommends that candidates assess their own level of preparation, taking into account both their professional experience and the level of knowledge required by the Body of Knowledge (BoK) for the LAT certification. If necessary, candidates should consult an instructor or supervisor to assess their readiness.
Training
Documented completion of lubrication management training covering the LAT Body of Knowledge is not required to take the exam.
However, ICML recommends using educational resources such as:
- guides and textbooks,
- on-site training,
- online training,
- training recordings,
- practical exercises,
- practice tests and revision materials.

The LAT (Lubrication Apprentice Technician) certification exam consists of 70 multiple-choice questions assessing the candidate’s knowledge according to the LAT Body of Knowledge.

Education and Experience
To obtain the Machine Lubricant Analyst I (MLA I) certification, candidates must have at least 12 months of professional experience in machine condition monitoring using lubricant analysis.
ICML defines this experience as performing activities related to oil analysis for a minimum of 16 hours per month over a period of at least one year.
Training
Before taking the exam, candidates must complete 24 hours of documented training covering the topics specified in the Body of Knowledge (BoK) for the MLA I certification.
For online training or recorded training materials, the following activities may also count towards the required training time:
- practical exercises,
- laboratory assignments,
- practice tests,
- revision materials.
However, the total time spent on these activities may not exceed 4 hours of the required 24 hours of training.
Candidates should have a document confirming completion of the training, containing:
- the participant’s first and last name,
- the instructor’s first and last name and signature,
- the dates of the training,
- the total number of completed training hours.

Advanced-level certification for professionals involved in oil analysis and machine diagnostics. The course develops competencies in interpreting diagnostic data and assessing the technical condition of equipment.
Professionals holding the MLA III certification are prepared to interpret complex diagnostic data, identify the causes of operational problems and support organizations in making decisions aimed at increasing equipment reliability and efficiency.
Education and Experience
To obtain the Machine Lubricant Analyst II (MLA II) certification, candidates must have at least 24 months of professional experience in machine condition monitoring using lubricant analysis.
ICML defines this as a minimum of 384 hours of professional practice, completed regularly over a period of two years (at least 16 hours per month).
In addition, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
- hold a valid Machine Lubricant Analyst Level I (MLA I) certification,
- or take the exam as a Mature Entry Candidate without holding an MLA I certification.
For the Mature Entry Candidate pathway, candidates must document:
- at least 576 additional hours of professional experience in oil analysis diagnostics (for a total of at least 960 hours of experience),
- a minimum of 24 hours of training covering topics from the MLA I Body of Knowledge, completed through training courses, seminars, workshops or practical exercises.
Training
Before taking the MLA II exam, candidates must complete 24 hours of documented training covering the knowledge requirements specified in the MLA II Body of Knowledge.
This training complements the previous preparation required at the MLA I level or through the Mature Entry Candidate pathway. This means that candidates should have a total of 48 hours of documented training.
For online training or recorded training materials, the following activities may also count towards the required training time:
- practical exercises,
- laboratory assignments,
- practice tests,
- revision materials.
The total time spent on these activities may not exceed 4 hours of the required 24 hours of training.

Machinery Lubrication Technician Level I (MLT I) is the entry-level ICML certification for professionals responsible for the practical aspects of lubrication management. The certification confirms knowledge of proper machine lubrication principles, lubricant selection and activities related to maintaining equipment reliability.
MLT I is primarily intended for maintenance technicians, mechanics and professionals who perform or supervise tasks related to the operation of lubrication systems in industrial facilities.
Education and Experience
To obtain the Machinery Lubrication Technician Level I (MLT I) certification, candidates must have at least two years of vocational education or practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
- machine lubrication management,
- engineering,
- maintenance and servicing of mechanical equipment,
- technical occupations related to machine operation.
Experience may include both formal post-secondary education and practical training gained through professional work.
Training
Candidates must complete 16 hours of documented training in lubrication management, in accordance with the requirements specified in the MLT I Body of Knowledge.

Machinery Lubrication Technician Level II (MLT II) is an advanced ICML certification level for professionals responsible for the practical management of machine lubrication. The certification confirms advanced competencies in planning, implementing and improving lubrication processes, contamination control, and implementing best practices to increase equipment reliability.
MLT II is intended for experienced maintenance technicians, technical team leaders and specialists who are responsible not only for performing lubrication tasks, but also for optimizing and standardizing processes in industrial facilities.
Education and Experience
To obtain the Machinery Lubrication Technician Level II (MLT II) certification, candidates must have at least three years of vocational education or practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
- machine lubrication management,
- engineering,
- maintenance and servicing of mechanical equipment,
- technical occupations related to machine operation.
An additional requirement is holding the following certification:
- Machinery Lubrication Technician Level I (MLT I).
Training
Candidates must complete 16 hours of documented training in lubrication management, in accordance with the requirements specified in the MLT II Body of Knowledge.

Wojciech Majka
Chairman of the Management Board and Managing Director of Ecol Sp. z o.o., he has been involved in the fields of machine reliability, lubrication engineering, and oil diagnostics since the beginning of his professional career. He is a CLS specialist in tribology and lubrication, certified by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), and an MLT II, MLE, MLA, and LLA II engineer recognized by the International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML).
Ecol, the company he manages, has been developing technologies related to lubrication engineering and the cleaning of industrial systems for 35 years, providing comprehensive lubrication and design services supported by state-of-the-art oil analysis.
Since 2024, he has been the only European member of the board of the International Council for Machinery Lubrication.
Piotr Farbiszewski
An expert in oil analysis, tribology, and machine condition monitoring, he has been involved in the field of maintenance and industrial equipment reliability for many years. As the Head of the Oil Analysis Department, he is responsible for implementing and developing diagnostic programs, overseeing analytical processes, and providing customer support in assessing the condition of lubricants and machinery.
He holds international ICML (International Council for Machinery Lubrication) certifications: Machine Lubricant Analyst Level II (MLA II), Machine Lubricant Analyst Level I (MLA I), and Laboratory Lubricant Analyst Technician (LAT), which attest to his high level of expertise in oil diagnostics, the interpretation of test results, and the laboratory analysis of lubricants.

A graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, he is an expert in the fields of oil analysis, tribology, and maintenance. Yes. ICML certifications require recertification every 3 years (with the exception of LAT). The purpose of this process is to confirm that the certified specialist continuously updates their knowledge and remains professionally active in the field of lubrication management.
Recertification is based on a point system. To renew a certificate, a specialist must accumulate 15 recertification points over a three-year period and submit the appropriate documentation to ICML. Details can be found on the official ICML website. -
