In a\u00a0series of articles on engine oil testing, we will try to answer the questions:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post__list post__list--nonordered\">\n<li class=\"post__list-item\">What are typical wear element values and their limits?<\/li>\n<li class=\"post__list-item\">How many kilometres can we drive on oil?<\/li>\n<li class=\"post__list-item\">What is the optimum test range for engine oil from a\u00a0passenger car?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"post__paragraph\">The analysis was carried out using different engine oils and cars with different characteristics (displacement, horsepower, etc.) from the Ecol car fleet and private cars of Ecol employees. In addition to this, the test also offers the possibility of detecting coolant or other contaminants entering the oil in excessive quantities. Element of the month<\/h3>\n<p class=\"post__paragraph\"><b>Boron (B, Latin: borium)<\/b> \u2013\u00a0 boron is an additive commonly used in detergents and is found in some EP (extreme pressure) or AW (anti-wear) additive chemicals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"post__paragraph\"><b>When should an increase in the level of boron in oil be alarming?<\/b> Only when the boron level deviates by more than 25% of the fresh oil reference value, and the most likely cause is mixing with another lubricant. <\/p>\n<p class=\"post__paragraph\">The presence of boron can also be the result of a\u00a0coolant leak, often in correlation with sodium and\/or potassium \u2013\u00a0these elements are present due to additives used in many coolants.\u202f<\/p>\n<p class=\"post__paragraph\">In flame tests, boron burns bright green. Because of this property, it is used in the manufacture of fireworks.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t      <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t      \t\t\t\t\t      <\/div>\n                \n          \n        \n
